Interview with Princess Kgaphola

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My children, they are the reason I want to see another day and every following day. They are the reason I don't want to see a day go by wasted, I work hard on each day to make sure I do not waste any given time.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I am not writing I will be watching TV with my elder son, playing with my younger son, relaxing with my husband or praying if all of them are not around.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
one book leads to another, mostly the listings on the website helps me.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I do because it was based on my life and I will definitely publish it one day when I am ready to answer the questions that readers will be asking me about the book since it is very sensitive.
What is your writing process?
I write, one written thing inspires me to write something from it,then from that something I get inspired to write something again and the journey goes on and on. example; I write about grace, from the story about grace I discover the story about love, then from the story about love I discover the story about commitment.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Hammanskraal, everything about this place is done by tradition, people make a routine of their life out of things that do not really need to made routine, like using the same street to school, eating "Sunday kos" on Sunday. children grow up knowing that we can't use glass cup because it is for guests only, we can't eat rice without beetroot or beetroot without rice. I could not help my self but had to write because I realized that if there is anything that people take seriously is a written word.
When did you first start writing?
when I was thirteen, that is when is I started to write anything that makes sense but I used to write even when I was younger, it just that no one could understand what I have written, not even myself.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy for writing is that I can be heard and I don't have to make noise to be heard. I can write my mind out, I write my heart out. I can get a person to clearly hear me out. if I want to tell someone something and and they don't want to hear me out, I can just write it down in my newsletters and since they will read it anyway, they will hear me out without having to defend themselves or justify anything. writing is greater than any voice.
What's the story behind your latest book?
hhmm... I wanted to publish a novel, the messages in the current book were the ones that pushed me to publish this novel, so after realizing how determined I was and that I could not have done it without some of this motivations, I decided to share them with other people because my motive was no longer about publishing my self but publishing what will help others.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords gave me a platform, something I have been longing for. Now I can confidently say to my fans " it is also available as an E-book and it is cheaper there, just check out Smashwords.com" and because I am obviously new in this industry and because people think that the things that are online are for "the famous and successful" they go like "wow, online, I will definitely check it out"
Smashwords gave me another reason to market my book.
