Interview with Salem Thorne

What do you read for pleasure?
Science fiction, fantasy works to. Anything beyond the norm really.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I don't have one I prefer over the others but I tend to use my Ipad for my e-reading.
Describe your desk
A table in an office that's away from the house, covered in screens cans of Mtn. Dew, five hour energy, red bull and a coffee pot. Three containers of pencils one of pens and an outbox for my research notes so I'll double check them later.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
The Napa valley, and Missouri, I'm not yet sure how it's affected my writing, save making my writing of outdoor scenes vivid.
When did you first start writing?
Five or six was when I first started pounding out my own stories on the computer for myself, but as for making a career out of it, two years ago I donned the mantle of a novelist.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I'm picky when it comes to agents, I gave myself a list of them to query and none of them picked up my work so I figured I'm not settling for my second choices and I'll just publish some of the works I've written myself while I keep trying them.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It's allowed me a place to sprout from and has given me a boost of confidence.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The characters, each striving for what they want and I help them get there. By hook or crook if need be.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are wonderful people and my goal for the future will yet be impossible without them. I appreciate them more each day and should they ask something of me, be it in my power I'll see it done. Hopefully all they do is pitch story ideas and ask me to write faster.
What are you working on next?
A novel entitled, 'Gifted' at least for the moment. It's a piece of paranormal fiction that has steadfastly remained gripping its place in my mind.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My characters and how it'd be unfair of me to leave their story unfinished. Myself because hey staying in bed accomplishes nothing.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Being active, dancing, archery, wrestling, running, swimming.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Usually through searches of genre and a lot of patience.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yeah, how could I not? Cyrus Deacon was the characters name but people just called him Gray. His dream was to ignore his family and leave home, never to return, needless to say it didn't end well for him. Of course the writing didn't do it justice either.
What is your writing process?
Depends on the time of day and my mood at the time but I'm often enough a pantser over a planner.
