Interview with Sandy May

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
My first story was in Romanian about Christmas traditions in Transylvania. I published it on line on a local site.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
To tell the truth, I do not remember the first story I read, but I remember my summer holidays as I child when I couldn't take my eyes off from books. I read hundreds of adventure novels, most of them written by classic writers: Karl May, Jules Verne, J.F. Cooper, Daniel Defoe, Jack London, R.L. Stevenson, Mark Twain, Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo, Radu Tudoran, Constantin Chirita etc. Their books gave me the courage to assume risks in order to change my life.
What do you read for pleasure?
Recently, I find pleasure in reading politics. But I also enjoy adventure novels and studies about communication techniques.
When did you first start writing?
I started to write poetry when I was 16 years old. I published some poems in my high school magazine.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are the most qualified judges in the world for my work. Books are written to be sold, judged and loved.
What are you working on next?
I am working at two other projects which I hope to release in 2017: a collection of short stories inspired by the people's ancient habits and lives in Transylvania and a social monograph of my country after the fall of the communism.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, I go to work :). Then I come home and spend my time with my daughter and my husband. At night and on weekends I write...
Describe your desk
My desk is a fabulous mess but I always know where to find things I'm looking for:)
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I started to write because I fear that I'm getting old and my emotions and life experiences disappear with me.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Transylvania, Romania and I think that the marvelous natural landscape and the kind-hearted inhabitants and their life stories made me want to write. I'm afraid not to lose these world's last evidence of kindness and beauty...
