Interview with Philip Horan

How do you approach cover design?
I think that a cover needs to convey a sense of interest relevant to the subject of the book, but mask a certain amount of surprise so once someone reads the book they are delighted with the contents as they aren't expecting what they read.
What do you read for pleasure?
I really like to read Non-Fiction books, particularly ones about life experience, biography's and stories about historical events.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a very poor part of Sydney's Western suburbs and saw quite a lot of dissent and disenfranchisement. Many of my peers went on to live lives of mediocrity and some even went on to commit crime. I made a promise to myself that I would enjoy a very different lifestyle and studied hard, particularly English & Literature. I express myself through writing and other forms of human communication and interaction to convey what I believe to be positive and productive information.
When did you first start writing?
I have always enjoyed writing from a very young age, I wrote stories about my adventures in life and also loved writing letters to friends in the days that letter writing was popular.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I have been very active in the property development and property sales area for over 35 years, I have seen many thousands of dollars lost or wasted using out of date techniques and sales systems. Real Estate Agents have basked in the financial benefits of Myth & Misconception for too long, I felt it was time to share information which will assist homeowners in selling their own properties in a way that will not only save them thousands of dollars but create a sense of empowerment and fun.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smash words is a very easy to use platform which allows authors to be in control of their own destiny, I love it!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The ability of expression and being able to share my experiences and my skills.
What are you working on next?
I am working on a very detailed 'How To' manual for home owners who wish to sell their own home.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have many, however I really enjoy reading books by Richard Branson as he conveys a sense of genuineness that is not found in many books by very successful people.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family, my love of life and the desire to make a difference.
