Interview with Kayalin Holsum

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wanted to share my personal story of child abuse and trauma and my healing process in a memoir in the hopes of being able to help other people who are or were bogged down with shame, fear, and guilt to overcome these negative feelings and move on with their lives with a sense of inner peace.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I have just joined Smashwords and published my book here.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy of writing is so that I can put things into perspective and possible help other people who read my book to heal and move on with their lives as well.
What do your fans mean to you?
I love to get reviews, both positive and negative, so that I can learn different perspectives, ideas, and opinions from my readers. Feedback helps me to grow as a person.
What are you working on next?
This is my only book at the moment.
Who are your favorite authors?
Dr. Susan Forward
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Socializing with people and my cat and looking at the nature around me inspires me to get out of bed each day.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I work in a retail shop. When I'm not working I am hiking, napping, watching a good movie on television or cooking.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I discover ebooks from Smashwords, Amazon and Goodreads.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
My memoir is the only story that I ever wrote.
What is your writing process?
I wrote a memoir so it was in chronological order over the span of several sessions with my psychiatrist. It starts out with my childhood experiences, my adulthood experiences, my thoughts and fears for humanity and the future, my experiences in the mental health system, and learning tools and lifestyle changes to heal my wounds.
