Interview with María Olivera

What do you read for pleasure?
This may sound weird, but I enjoy reading my own books which gives me a chance to evaluate in a relaxed mood the pros and cons of the book.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I enjoy reading from the Kindle or the computer screen.
Describe your desk
Besides the usual computer and monitor, I tape all sorts of things to the shelves of the desk, such as: calendars, list of my books that I'm working on, a list of dynamic verbs, a ream of computer paper for my printer, etc.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in So. California. We could cut school one day and go to the snow in the mountains and cut school the next cay and go to the beach. It was an exciting place to be with good friends and lots to do. I believe this kept my mind going constantly on different subjects so that when I was ready to write, I had lots of ideas in my head.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing in Bogotá, Colombia in 1998.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book that I have not yet finished is titled "Night Train to Zurich." It grew out of a trip I took from Grenoble, France to Zurich, Switzerland on January 6. You will recognize that date as All Kings Day, and the adventures surround happenings inherent on that date.
