Interview with Sean Smith

When did you first start writing?
I cant remember. I have been writing short stories as long as I can remember.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. It was a about two families forced to share a house, and the fued that developed. I was about 10, I think.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It is a collection of short stories set in a town not unlike the one I grew up and still live in. The stories all connect on a very basic level and share a similar theme of hope and change.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The traditional publishing route is very difficult to break into, so I thought this would be the best way to get my book 'out there'.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read a lot. An awful lot, much more than I should, as my wife is keen to remind me! I read a lot of varied books, but definitely prefer fantasy and sci-fi, and also crime novels.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a kindle, which my wife bought for me a couple of Christmas's ago. I had sworn I would never use one as I loved, (and still do) the feel of a paper book in my hands, but I have grown to love the convenience my kindle affords me.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Very simply, my family.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Again, a simple answer, working and with my family.
Describe your desk
Cluttered! Covered in books read and unread, with a little Starship Enterprise model and a globe of the world. I am fascinated by the world and the countries in it, and the geography of it, and Star Trek of course.
