Interview with Ramona Osborn

What are you working on next?
I have been giving a lot of thought to writing a continuation of the Torturing Annie story. Many people would like to know what will happen next. However, I have something similar in my mind about a couple who fall in love in a very unusual way, and express that love in an equally unusual and deviant way. Currently, I'm working on a chance encounter at a bar. Will it be love or just lust?
Who are your favorite authors?
Judith McNaught has to be my favorite. I enjoy reading true crime by many authors.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I enjoy spending time with my children. I enjoy researching things that I'm not familiar with, and trying new things. I've tried to learn to open, and expand my mind to new things. Stepping out of my comfort zone, and learning to view the world from a different point of view. It can be a freeing experience, and I encourage others to try it.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I remember the first story that I wrote. I was twelve years old. It was a romance about a young woman who fell in love with a very rich, and handsome man. I laugh looking back. It was very Walt Disney in comparison to some of my current writings.
What is your writing process?
I visualize the images, the emotions, the scenes first, and then I begin the process of putting my mental story into words.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I do recall a short story that I read in the ninth grade, and the impact. It left me in tears. It was the first time that I had become so completely drawn into a story that I felt like I had become a part of it. It was that spark that led me to want the same things for my readers.
How do you approach cover design?
It varies. I enjoy simplistic, or something that will bring you visually into the story.
What do you read for pleasure?
True Crime, romance, suspense and erotica.
Describe your desk
I'm actually on my laptop. So I can take it anywhere. This is a little embarrassing, but technically my desk (right now) is a T.V tray. I have my pens, paper and note cards sitting beside me on an end table.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a country neighborhood in Alabama. The closest small town is Muscle Shoals, and it's famous for it's music. The farther out you go the more country it becomes. I remember as child that we had a small chicken coupe when I was around eight years old. One year a duck flew into our yard and wouldn't leave. She kept getting inside the pen with the chickens and sitting on the chicken's eggs. I spent a lot of time outside, in my own imagination. Then when I was nine years old, my little brother came along. But I believe that being an only child and having access to so many things that could create boredom for some, creates creativity in others.
When did you first start writing?
My very first story was written at the age of 12.
