Interview with Shaneekqua Bell

Describe your desk
A little unorganized. It has decorations and ornaments on it. A laptop and pen holder.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Brooklyn, New York. I loved to read and was a fan of Stephen King novels, along with Harlequin books. I always wanted to write good books. I participated in school writing contests. I was encouraged by my teachers, friends, and family.
People seemed to enjoy my short stories and poems. I hoped to become just as popular as the authors that I admired. I even wrote to a few of them but, of received no response.
When did you first start writing?
I wrote my first short article in the 4th grade. That article was published in the local newspaper (The Canarsie Courier).
What's the story behind your latest book?
It's just a different view on the alien and human relationship. More like seeing things from the alien side of things.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I just wanted to be an Author. I love to write and if being an indie author is a way to share my work with others than, I'm happy with that.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy is when I complete a story.
What do your fans mean to you?
They are my biggest support unit. My fans encourage me to keep writing. I appreciate all of them.

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My children.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I'm a homemaker. I spend time with the children, cook, clean, and keep the house together. I have motivational talks with the children. I try to encourage them to never give up on their dreams, even when it seems like you're getting nowhere. I have 1 daughter and 4 sons. They are all home with me. In Spring we garden and periodically go fishing. We have cookouts and outdoor fun. When the weather is awful, we play video games, or we draw pictures together. I'm always doing something.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I search by author or someone will recommend a book for me to check out. I have a nook and my friends make suggestions.

I read fantasy and romance novels.
