Interview with Shelly Marie Karg

Published 2013-09-01.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the Akron, Ohio US area and remained there until the summer after 6th grade. I then moved to the Kent, Ohio US area, married in 1979 and am still with my husband. Although my youth didn't actually influence me to write, I have reverted to memories of my childhood and places to use in my books.
When did you first start writing?
AAAAahhhhhh.....Raven's Guardian is my first attempt at putting my words on paper. I have always been a decorative artist, but lost the ability due to an illness. Writing has been my release for the creative flow that lives within me.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Raven's Guardian is a trilogy but will be followed up in time with stories featuring many of the characters in the stories. It is a story of true love between a young lady, Raven and a wolf that is 112 years old, Lucian. I am currently working on Michael's story, which will be the story of his adventures in the world of Cherokees, Wolves and Skinwalkers. Michael is Raven's older brother. I am also working on a new series called Seventh Street Slayers...more in the Vamp lines.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Research, research, and more research. Spoke directly with a Publishing Company and together, we determined that being an independant author is the trend of today.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Watching my characters come alive in words.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. Although I am a new Author, I wouldn't have a reason to continue without them.
Who are your favorite authors?
Sherrilyn Kenyon, Christine Feehan, J.R. Ward have equal standing for me. I also like Quinn Loftis, Lara Adrian, Belinda Boring, Lori Brighton and many others. I am an avid reader of anything supernatural that involves Vampires and Wolves.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My Kindle and my iPhone
