Describe your desk
Super organized & clean!
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book "Aarya" is based in contemporary India and has an element of fantasy to it.
It developed from a single 'seed' idea that eventually flourished into a full story over three years.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing is to be able to create parallel worlds and hook readers into this world.
It is an absolute pleasure to watch the 'awe and shock' that my readers go through after reading my books.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything! Their feedback, reactions, and criticism are what help me to become a better writer everyday.
What are you working on next?
My next project is a self-help book that is geared towards battling OCD. It is going to be a super sarcastic, dark and funny book that will help you smile and tackle many OCD related issues.
This book is a big deviation from my fiction/ fantasy style of writing and is closer to me because I have gone through some terrible times trying to counter OCD all by myself.
With this book, I hope to be there for others who have the same issues and don't have a support system in place.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
"Oorja" that's what gets me out of bed every day. It is the fire within you that gives you dreams that don't let you sleep. I have found my Oorja in the stories that I want to tell to the world. The word Oorja is of an Indian (Hindustani) origin and loosely translated means "the fire in your belly"
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend my time in nature, under the stars, at spiritual retreats or reading and researching.
Apart from that, I am a full-time filmmaker and visual effects artist.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in India (Hindustan). The India I grew up in was the independent post-colonial era of my country, and it was a pleasure growing up in the rich and varied culture.
I have been exposed to spiritual texts and teaching right from my childhood and that shaped up my world-view and hence my writing style a lot.
Stories such as Mahabharata and Ramayana influence my writing to a great extent. Texts such as the Vedas and the TattvarthSutra also have a huge influence on my writing style.
I am extremely grateful and thankful for this exposure early on in my life.
