Interview with Simon Leigh

How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I don't. I read library books and buy them on Amazon.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. The school magazine published it. A driving lesson.
How do you approach cover design?
Tell the designer exactly what I want, then argue back and forth till I get exactly what I want.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I only read news and science stories on my computer. I have an iPod but never read from it.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Sydney, Australia. It's my home though I've lived in Canada since 1970. Australians are brilliant writers and I struggle to be at least readable.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes. A boy who built an aeroplane. I started building an aeroplane but had a problem finding a motor.
What do you read for pleasure?
Scientific and nature magazines. And humour. Old poems and the occasional novel.
Describe your desk
Long, self-made, facing a big screen computer/TV and a sound system, and bookshelves with files and books within reach. File cabinet to the left, window to the right. Bliss!
What's the story behind your latest book?
My evidence-based conviction that current over-population will make our planet uninhabitable within about ten years, through climate change, and that nothing can stop it--except what I suggest in my eBook APOCALYPSE 2020: The Culling.
