Interview with Sinda Cheri Floyd

What motivated you to become an indie author?
My sister and I co-write under the pen name Sinda Cheri Floyd. I'm Sinda, she's Cheri but we are both Floyds.
We both have been writing for years professionally and have published academic books and articles. On vacation one summer, I saw a news piece on an indie author and decided to research indie publishing. It was a step that has changed our lives! We are now on our 6th book of our series, the Floyd Sisters Mysteries, and having an absolute blast! We hope you enjoy them and that your children do as well...
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The creative process is hard to define. I will be watering flowers in my garden and an idea comes to me about a new plot in our latest book. I will go to sleep thinking about a problem with a story and wake up with a fresh approach. My sister and I have often speak of the chapters "writing themselves." It is an absolute joy to have creative thoughts, to put them to paper and then have someone actually want to buy your creation. Writing has brought some of life's greatest joys to us.
What are you working on next?
All of our books are set in the western parts of the United States. My sister lives in Dallas, Texas and I live in Reno, Nevada, so the West is definitely a setting we know. We pick our settings through experience and develop plots as they come to us. Our latest book in our series, the Floyd Sisters Mysteries, is Vengeance in Virginia City. VC is a great old western town with silver and gold mining historical importance. Lincoln made Nevada a state to use the ore extracted from places like Virginia City. With this great background, the Floyd sisters go on a short vacation and bump smack-dab into another mystery. They seem to do that wherever they go! We work our own personalities into the characters, as they are indeed us (a few years ago). So in Vengeance we have Old West flavor, pioneer blood feuds, gold and silver mining and a ghost or two.
