Interview with S.K. Gregory

Published 2015-09-30.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing at a very young age, maybe 7 or 8.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book started out as a short story in a Halloween anthology and has now been expanded into a novella. I loved the characters so much that I wanted to write more about them. The book is called Queen of Hell: Hell Hath No Fury and it is about three friends who face a night of horror at a college party. The main character Jesse is saved by a succubus called Sasha who also happens to be the future Queen of Hell.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I'm not sure, I guess I like the idea of working with small presses and having more control over my books.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When the story all comes together just right.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favourite authors are Kelley Armstrong, Stephen King and Dean Koontz.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I like to read - I do reviews through my website. I like watching movies and archery too.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was the story of a brother and sister who find a magic mirror that lets them see into another world.
What is your writing process?
Very chaotic. Writing when I can. Sometimes I stop for days then I will have a mad rush and write for hours.
How do you approach cover design?
I like them to stand out - bold colors and great pictures. I think that the right cover can draw people to a book even if they are not familiar with the author.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Bitten by Kelley Armstrong - I love all her books but especially the Otherworld series
Undead by Kirsty McKay - zombies of course. Great action and dialogue
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - A great story.
Witch Moon by Kat Gracey - Really good story
IT by Stephen King - Scary tale
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle
