Interview with Joseph McCormick

What's the story behind your latest book?
Well, that's a great question, and the only answer I can give is that I owe it to be written. It's my first novel, that I've been writing for over 20 years now, and in that time, I have used it to learn the craft. It's been my greatest fan, and because so, I owe it big time. And so, someday this will be done from start to finish. My motto is: never give up on someone who's never given up on you.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My love for writing and sharing what I've created. It's simple as that.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating what I've imagined then giving it life.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Like most I suppose. I do web browsing, music making, video game playing, news watching, and so much more.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
By browsing. It's a lot more fun that way.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yeah, and I'm still writing it. It's a fantasy novel that's part narration and part flashback which the reader re-lives, the flashback part, at the time that they occurred. And it's a massive story too, but then again, aren't they all. (:
What is your writing process?
A somewhat different one I think, and it goes like this, one, I come up with an idea, then two, I sit down and begin to write the first draft. Now, if you noticed, I didn't say that I did any world building, or character creation, or anything else for that matter, before I begin to write. No, I create everything on the fly. Hard I know, but it gives me the chance to see my story evolve which is so much fun. I never really know where it's going which keeps me writing to find out. (:
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I sure do, and it was Call of the Wild, and it taught me what love and endurance is.
How do you approach cover design?
By trying to match it with the essence of the story I'm writing if I can that is.
How many more books and stories do you plan to write.
As many stars as there is in the sky, but most likely I'll only write about a half of that. (:
