Interview with Sugar Lafever

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I enjoy reliving the past through my writing and i enjoy reading other authors who transport me back in time with their books as well.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords gives me all the tools I need for success in one place. The time I save allows more time for writing.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Seeing the entire story come together as a cohesive unit. I also truly enjoy when characters hijack the story I intended to write and take it in a totally different direction.
What do your fans mean to you?
I enjoy giving the reader a mental staycation by reading my books.
What are you working on next?
I am working on the next book in the "Consumption in the Jazz Age" series. You haven't seen the last of Frankie, Lunette, or Henry! (Frankie is the one who hijacked the first book)! I'm also working on a series of short stories set in the 1970s.
Who are your favorite authors?
I truly love Robert Beatty for his strong, young female characters and intricate, exciting plots. His "Serafina" series is one of the best book series I have ever read. I also truly enjoy children's author Mo Willems. Anything he touches is gold! Additionally, I enjoy reading indie authors such as Sara Zama who also writes about the 1920s. That is my favorite era to escape to as a reader and writer!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My children! On the weekends, they are sometimes the ones literally getting me out of bed! Do we writers ever truly get enough sleep?! All kidding aside, truly my children are my inspiration for everything I do and my greatest joy.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Spending time with family is always number one. I also enjoy listening to music (especially jazz), reading, cooking, and animals.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I follow writers and bloggers on Twitter. I read their books and also find new authors through their followers and who they are following as well.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was about a character I called "Rainbow Horowitz." I still love that name!
What is your writing process?
I don't make an outline or follow a set plan from A to B. I like to have the characters get in the driver's seat and take me for a ride.
