Interview with Surinder Kohli 'Suri'

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The thrill of converting a germ of an idea into a heart touching ensemble of words in lyric form has no parallel. The depth of creativity involved in the process of writing poetry brings a profound sense of achievement & fulfillment that keeps prodding you on & on to do better - where the end result itself is the reward.
What do your fans mean to you?
Appreciation from fans not only eggs you on to better heights, it also tells you that your efforts are on the right path to linking with your readers' emotions..
Who are your favorite authors?
Having spent the better part of my life selling books all over India, the U.K, & the Middle East, my reading interests are vastly varied. In poetry these are Sahir Ludhianavi, Jigar Moradabadi, Daag Dehlvi. In prose - Ayn Rand, Paulo Coelho, Zacharia Sitchin, Graham Hancock, Bill Bryson, Bill Cosby, John Pilger, & many many more.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
My very first serious poem was "Mere Mehboob" (My beloved) written almost 30 years back & is included in my first book "Mohabbat Ki Baatein".
What are you working on next?
My next book is titled "Teri Yaad Aati Hai - more Ghazals & Love Poetry for the Young at Heart".This book contains my later & recent poems - which I suppose have got a little more mature with experience, & hopefully these will also connect with the readers emotionally. Consistent with my passion for composing & singing, many of these lyrics are immensely singable.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The suspense of what the new day is likely to bring.....
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Thinking...Dreaming...from which sometimes come the seeds of fresh poetry.
Also my passion for playing & composing music brings the utmost happiness.
How do you approach cover design?
creativity.... feelings.....& an eye for beauty.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Success & popular acceptance of my poetry at various poetry seminars in my home town - Bangalore (India), brought about a stream of requests to make these available in the form of a book which can have a far wider audience.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Having been a career Book seller for most of my life, I can easily see that this is the future....the only way the author himself can make the whole wide world his potential audience.
