Interview with Susan Hanniford Crowley

What do your fans mean to you?
A lot. I am one of the most accessible authors on the internet. You can email me at onlyladyknight(at)yahoo(dot)com, and I will do my best to answer you. You won't be answered by a publicist or a personal assistant. It will be me. I love meeting fans. I will be in Boston for Arisia 2015.
What are you working on next?
I'm working on the second book in the Arnhem Knights of New York series. Vampire King of New York, the first book, is all about King Max and his search for true love and is available in ebook with Kindle, Nook and Kobo and print. The next book is about his vampire daughter, who was made during the French Revolution. It's a lot of fun. I can't say more than that without spoiling it. This is all with my publisher Soul Mate Publishing.

I will also be self re-releasing Poseidon's Catch and Vampire in the Basement. Since I was restricted with word count in the originals, I plan on adding to these.
Who are your favorite authors?
I enjoy reading classics but in my field, I love Christine Feehan and Charlaine Harris. I'm just a sucker for vampires. I've researched vampires for 30 years now, and I'm still learning.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I work a day job as a webmaster and social media expert. I love collecting dragons, making Zentangle art, practicing Muay Thai kickboxing and yoga, and being with family.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I love reading new readers and find them all over the place from Smashwords, Amazon as recommended by others, definitely on Facebook and Twitter and even at Renaissance fairs.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I was eight and I wrote about the squirrels in my backyard.
What is your writing process?
I dream and wake up and write. I write both on the computer and in journals and notebooks. If the flow gets stuck on the computer, I just switch over to long hand and I can continue. When I have enough written, I type it into the computer and then continue again.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I remember the first story read to me. It was Peter Pan, and it has framed my life. I believe in making the impossible possible. I also believe in faeries.
How do you approach cover design?
I have been fortunate enough to have a publisher to do that for me. When my former publisher closed they returned rights and gifted me the covers for my first vampire romance series. For Mrs. Bright's Tea Room, a friend of mine who was a graphic design student at the time did my new cover for a modest sum. She now works for a major company. When Love Survives was a cover gifted to me by my publisher and was created by Creations by Kendra.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie- I am so into all possible worlds in addition to this one.
Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynn Jones - It's magical and moving emotionally. Grandma Sophie is my favorite character. I don't want to give anything away.
The Tiger's Fang by Paul Twitchell - an amazing spiritual book. I'm into spirituality and serenity.
Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris. It's when Sookie Stackhouse meets Vampire Bill. It's the first book in her series.
The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula LeGuin is my favorite science fiction novel and it's about a dreamer.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read computer technical books, paranormal romance, science fiction and fantasy.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I received a Kindle for my birthday and I hug it, so I guess you could say it's my e-reader of choice. It's the paperwhite, no back light, no glare. I'm on the computer so much, I needed an e-reader that would not hurt my eyes.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
That changes constantly as the options change. If I can go to a signing, I do. I love meeting people. I have a blog with four other romance authors called Nights of Passion and not only do we promote our own books but also upcoming romance authors. Romance authors who would like to guest blog can contact me at onlyladyknight(at)yahoo(dot)com. We don't do YA books as sometimes we have erotic romance authors on. We do have criteria, but if interested contact me. I try to announce in all the social media platforms. Goodreads has very beneficial opportunities for authors.
