Interview with TC Collins

Published 2016-11-14.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Most of my free time is spent with my husband, young son, and huge fluffy dog. I also love cooking, fashion, art(painting), music, and the outdoors, so I try to get to all of those things as much as possible.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. It was in grade school, about a girl who believes her father is trying to kill her so she enlists the help of her magic "imaginary" friend and leprechaun, aka The Little Green Guy to help her become invisible whenever she gets scared.
What is your writing process?
I think the term is "pantser"? Not really one to outline or plan. I will usually get the plan of the plot to the next story I'm writing while vacuuming, or walking the dog.
How do you approach cover design?
I look at the world around me for inspiration. Just as I do to create my characters. News and magazines, movies, and what's HOT & popular right now. I'm always researching on Google, and can not deny my love for anything classic too. I am inspired by the art and design you may randomly see on a billboard, or in your neighbors garden, or architectural magazine, or even a set of children's stickers with a coloring book at Target. There is beauty and power in noticing the small things that most people overlook. You just have to take it all in (and write it down).
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
To Kill a Mockingbird. Nuff said.
What do you read for pleasure?
Gossip magizines:)
Describe your desk
Guacamole and chips/pepper slices, stacks of fashion magazines, books, five to ten notebooks filled with notes, pens and highlighters, Iphone, computer, IPad (I write my books on the IPad), candles, coffee, green tea, or a glass of wine. Daydreaming, with a big fluffy dog at my feet.
When did you first start writing?
When I was ten. It seemed my notebooks were the only ones who'd listen.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
In the Midwest in the middle of a nasty divorce at a very young age. I used books and film to escape reality, and boy, did my imagination take off from it. I have at least five more books in my head. All genres.
What are you working on next?
The sequel. A funny mommy book. And, a thriller that will give you chills.
What's the story behind your latest book?
There have been few books, shows, and films that have stuck with me over the years. Sex and The City, Pretty Women, Girl Interrupted, and Cruel Intentions. Plus, the many wild stories of the people and places around me over the years too. I've moved around the country quite a bit. Put it all together and what have you got? An edgy, wild, and super fun novel that reads like a gossip column with a heap of heart and soul.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I am inspired everyday to entertain people! I want you to read fifty pages and not even know that you did so because you're completely lost in the adventure. That is the absolute beauty of literary art. If I have accomplished that- it's all that I need.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Getting to create my own world, and make my own rules there.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. The more people that enjoy my work, the more I want to write the next novel, and the next, and the next. It really ignites a roaring fire under my tush!
