Interview with T.K. Holt

What is your writing process?
I find a someplace where I will not be interrupted by people, there is some sort of noise in the background like the television or music and then it's just me and my laptop. Most of my stories do not have a full plot. They are mostly generated from a single idea but once the vision pops into my brain there is not stopping me.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I have no idea. I have been reading since grade school. To be honest it was more than likely a children's book by Dr. Seuss. But whatever impact it had on me then I sure has nothing to do with what I write now lol.
How do you approach cover design?
There is always an image in my mind, even while I am writing the story, I can see what I would like the cover to look like. Because I have a bit a graphic design in my background it is very hard for me to find the exact images to match what's in my mind but I do my best to get my artist or myself to put together what I see in my head.
What do you read for pleasure?
I will read just about anything. Romance, paranormal, thrillers or suspense it makes no difference. I just enjoy reading.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I love my Kindle Fire.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Having a very eye catching cover is the start of it all to me, then I get the buzz out about the book as soon as possible. Gaining great reviews is always a big help because I believe readers like to know first hand what others think about it. I ask readers for feedback on the story and if they like it I insist they tell a friend. Word of mouth is a huge technique to spreading the word on your work.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew in Washington, DC. My childhood was filled with plenty of excitement that opened my mind to many different experiences. I've met all sorts of people with a wide variety of personalities that help me build my characters as I create them.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing about three years ago as an online role player. When I took the opportunity that was offered to me I had no idea that it would one day lead to me being a published author.
What's the story behind your latest book?
"Destined To Be" Is about a guitarist who dreams of making it big. His hopes were to build a band and become world famous. The life he had planned was not exactly what it college sweetheart had in mind. She thought him to be a fool for dropping out of school and running off to become a star and decided not go along with him. After years have passed and their separate lives start to develop they discover that neither of them had been able to fill that void in their heart. From opposites of the world it was apparent that neither of them were going to let go of their pride and reach out to the other so they put their fate in the hands of bunch people running an online dating site to discover who they were destined to be with.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My peers, family and friends motivated me the most. Impatience also played a major part in it as well. My writing speed is through the roof and when a story is complete I'm so anxious to let my fans read them that becoming an indie author was the easiest and fastest way for me to do that. Publishing companies make it easier for you bc they do all the work but for someone like me the waiting process is a killer.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy is being able to express myself, share my creativity and most of all having readers who truly enjoy my style and share this passion with me.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean everything to me! Without them there would be no me. I would still write if no one read it but to hear from your fans what they think of your work makes it all worth wild. They give me the drive to continue doing what I do.
What are you working on next?
I have a BDSM short story (True Desires) coming out soon as well as a paranormal short (The Connection) also in the editing stages right now. My vampire series (Thirst of the Deceptive Throne) is being updated and expanded as well as my previously published contemporary Her Other Lover will be released soon.
Who are your favorite authors?
Some of my all time favorite authors are Lora Leigh, Shayla Black, Zane, Eric Jerome Dicky, James Patterson, Sherrilyn Kenyon.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Getting out of the bed means I get to write some more. That's all the inspiration I need.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Free time consist of movies, music, work and spending time with my friends and family.
