Interview with Tamalyn E Scott

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Coffee....The smell of brewing coffee gets me out of bed..and knowing that soon I'll be writing or answering emails from my readers.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Usually, I you'll find me practicing the next set of songs on my guitar for worship service on Sunday. I also help other folks who need some kind of assistance.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes I do. It was a young love story about a school girl with a crush on a boy in her class. She was invisible to everyone, until she does something amazing.
What is your writing process?
My writing process isn't normal from what I've been told. I close my eyes and a movie starts to play very slowly and in black and white, just like the silent movies. The movie starts to speed up and slowly changes to color and then I hear words, sounds and see the characters actually moving and/or talking. Then I start typing everything I see and hear down as fast as I can. Then strangely, when I can see the woman, I start seeing out of her eyes, seeing, hearing or talking to someone or doing something. It's an amazing feeling and I'm right there! When the story movies on, I sometimes see through her eyes or just observing and writing. It's very strange!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes I do, it was, "Little Women" and realized that I was more like Joe than I could imagine! I knew the love the family had was much like my own family and the strength woman had, anyone could be this courageous!
How do you approach cover design?
I did research! I went to many books stores and starred at the romance shelves looking for something that wasn't there. I blurred my eyes and saw blue, red and white covers, but the one color I didn't see was black. I thought black would stand out and even though it may appear dark, each Knight has their own sword design and decided to put that Knights sword on the spine with the title of the book through the sword. The cover is simple. Black, the title in red, two characters on the cover, the woman up close and the male behind her and at the bottom, my name. I personally know all but one of the cover models!
When did you first start writing?
My family will tell you that, "She lives in a bubble." I've made up stories all my life, but to really start writing? I was a fan of reading romance books and always thought, "I could do that!". Then, after a failed 15 year marriage, men SUCKED! So, I created my pwn world! A world where men were men and didn't complain about taking the garbage out, but where men treated women as a gift, a treasure and worth fighting for! But yeah, I started writing at the age of 35.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy for writing is having the ability to create a place where I can take someone on an amazing journey. Take them away for a while and show them what real love is and when I hear from one of my readers something like, "MY husband was angry because he wanted dinner? Can you imagine that?!!!" or "I'm SO MAD at you! I couldn't put that book down and read until 4am! I had to leave for work in an hour!" and one of my favorites is, "I felt empowered!" That one was from a man and another one was from a man in college studying to be an English Literature teacher, "That was the best book I've read in a long time! Everything was perfectly tied up in the end and honestly, didn't want it to end!" So, there are many reasons, and these are just a few!
What do your fans mean to you?
EVERYTHING! Their input is key! Their feed back keeps me wanting to write more. I realized that they NEED a break from these hard times and when they say, "Where can I find a man like that?!!!" I tell them that they are out there! You just have to raise the bar and never settle! Interaction with my fans are so important to me. Without them, I wouldn't write!
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I'm new to Smashwords and still working on that! I can only hope that they are a real avenue to something more. So far, Smashwords seems to be the right place to be! We'll see what happens!
