Interview with Tara Oliver

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I am not writing I am usually working or playing the drums. I love everything that has to do with music! Singing and dancing around like a goof ball is a normal day for me.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, the first story I ever wrote was when I was like six or seven. It was called "The Little Big People". The story was about giant stone people who lived on earth and mysteriously vanished one day.
What is your writing process?
My writing process is all over the place. Most of the time I will start out by writing a poem, and sometimes that grows into a short story. Other than that most of my ideas for my short stories come from my dreams, with a hint of life experiences.
What do you read for pleasure?
Very rarely I will read for pleasure. I think because I don't want to be too influenced by other writers ideas.
Describe your desk
My desk is pretty neat. I have two computers and a printer on it with some pictures of friends and family.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Michigan, about twenty minutes from the city of Detroit. I am not sure if my location had a major influence on my writing. I would say I have always been a creative person.
When did you first start writing?
When I was six or seven I wrote my first story. I later went on to write more poetry in my teen years. For awhile I stopped writing all together, and have just recently got back into it.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is more of a short story. It was going to be a poem at first and it kind of manifested into something else as I was writing it.
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans mean everything! I just hope that people read my work and in some way it touches them, and stays with them. Getting peoples minds turning is always fun!
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on another short story that deals with love and loss. It has of course a dark twist to it.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family and friends inspire me every day. Looking towards the future and staying positive help me get out of bed each day.
