Interview with Cara Johnson

When did you first start writing?
I started out writing plays, and am currently writing a movie for my friends and I to have fun with. But the first thing I wrote I was 7 and had just gone to see UNLV version of Pippi Longstocking, so I thought; "I'm going to write a play called 'Pippi Longstocking Finds A Dog' My, on the smaller side of things, pitbull and I were the only stars and it was the first preformance for my parents, or anyone for that matter, that was actually written out.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Well, I am growing up in Las Vegas, Nevada. It hasn't really, I've been reading books on an adult level since second grade and one day I was watching a movie and thought to myself; "Wow, in a form all my own I think this would make a really cool book."
What is your writing process?
Well, I go in the kitchen, turn on the radio, and let the ideas flow and onto a hand-written notebook that when it's done I will copy to the computer, that way, no accidental deletion and all my work is lost.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Well, I've been reading all these cute teen romance novels and I thought that I should write one. My two books that I'm working on right now should be out soon. Unfortunately I wan't have them in print. But maybe I will, you never know what will happen!
What motivated you to become an author?
Well, there are so many authors out there, and I have a VERY active imagination, that I thought that it would be cool if I became one, even if I never become famous.
Describe your desk
Ever since fourth grade I have known if someone has been in my desk, everything has its own special place, and if it's not there someone is in major trouble!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Well, there are two. Being able to share my stories with other people. And the other thing is seeing one of my friends or family members eyes widen because a new teenager is writing two books at one time.
Who are your favorite authors?
Jane Austen, and almost everyone who has written a book in 'The 39 Clues'
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am very athletic, whether it be swimming, running, baseball, or basketball. I love to ride my horse Tinkey's Texas Star, or Dee as I call her, she was a hunter/jumper Grand Champion in 2006, and I love playing with my dog, most people are scared of her because she's a pitbull but she is the sweetest and she loves ANY mail man (strange huh?). But most of all, my friends are a lot of times saying "Get your nose outta that book and get over here and play a board or video game!"
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My phone, but I do like reading on my desktop
