Interview with Tere Michaels

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating characters and a story that satisfies me - and my readers. Emotional satisfaction, enjoyment...these are my goals for everyone involved! I love sharing a story that moves me with other people.
What do your fans mean to you?
I wouldn't be here without them. They give me more than the obvious - buying my books is one thing. Coming and speaking to me about moments and characters and their feelings is a connection most people don't get to experience. I love talking to fans - and not just about my work! I want to know what else they're reading, what makes them happy.

My business is "We all love books." How great is that?
What are you working on next?
I am rereleasing my Romantic Suspense novel, Heir Apparent. It's a classic set-up: Henry Walker is the heir to a vast fortune, his childhood friend Archie Banks is his driver/ can see where this is going! There's a secret affair, a kidnapping, danger, angst, and falling in love! After that, I have the third book in my Vigilante series. Dystopian NYC, a superhero in the making and a guy who is in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Who are your favorite authors?
J.R. Ward, Dean Koontz, Damon Suede!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Working - I do the programming for a large romance publishing convention. Romance novels are my life! I also love reading (of course), going to the movies (does someone fall in love? does something blow up? are there superheroes?) and going to the park or the gym. Spending time with my husband, son and our cats. I have a pretty awesome life.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Word of mouth mostly, either from fellow authors and readers. Social media is helpful as well - not necessarily ads but more what people are raving about.
What is your writing process?
Basically, the process goes like this - I get hit by a lightning strike of inspiration. A character, a scenario, a moment. Then I think and brood and imagine and poke around until a story starts to take shape. I might puzzle over a story for a year or more before I even start putting words on paper. Finally, I sit down with a blank screen. I keep writing the beginning until I'm satisfied with, then I write the ending, then the rest.

It's a little crazy but it works!
What do you read for pleasure?
A little bit of everything. I'm a big believer that you have to read outside your comfort zone so I will read pretty much anything, fiction or non-fiction. History, neuroscience, sociology, the classics, romance novels, YA - if something strikes me as interesting, I am there.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a Kindle (actually I have three!) but I also read on my iPhone and on my laptop.
Describe your desk

The desk is my office is filled with things that inspire me. Objects, pictures, totems. It's almost sacred. But I need to move when I work so I divide my time between my office and my lap desk. Have laptop will travel!
