Interview with Teresa Friedlander

What are your five favorite books, and why?
My favorite books are those which do not waste my time or make me feel embarrassed for the writer. "War and Peace" is at the top of that list. "Infinite Jest", by David Foster Wallace, is in the top five.
What do you read for pleasure?
I always have "The New Yorker" magazine around and I seek out fiction and non-fiction works that have something to say about the known world.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
They all have strengths and weaknesses. Currently, I have a Nook with a touch screen and am happy with it.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Ask me after I have sold something.
Describe your desk
Organized chaos.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
"Absurdistan" made me who I am today.
When did you first start writing?
I was a late bloomer due to dysgraphia and other learning "differences".
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I like the idea of retaining 100% of the rights to my work until and unless I am approached by a publisher with a proven track record.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When I sit down to write, the words flow like water down a stream and carry me away to another reality.
What do your fans mean to you?
I hope someday to have some! Meanwhile, I plan to keep writing from the heart.
What are you working on next?
I am working on a lengthy novel about women, horses, cognitive dissonance, and the essence of love.
