Interview with Michael Damm

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The wonderful gift of life. I have had two cancer surgeries and the first one sounded like the end. I was lucky to be allowed to continue living. I thank God for every day! Getting stuck in the rain used to be a bad thing, now it brings joy to my heart. So many of life's little things used to be overlooked, now they are cherished. Get out of bed every day and remember how lucky you are to able to experience all the wonders we get to share.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My current book started with thoughts about a secret organization that controlled world events. As we watch the news it is hard to believe that certain events or market movements are not planned by someone. As I worked on the book a few questions needed to be answered. What if there is a secret group set up specifically to recruit and exploit the worlds best, controlling and even creating world events? How would someone control that group? Could the antichrist leverage this group to achieve world dominance? What if the expected needs to confirm we are in end times are not what we expect?
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I get joy from working the story. Adding, deleting, rewriting, trying to make it fun but at the same time give it depth. Writing is very similar to reading for me, I escape to a different world and get to share that world with my readers.
What do you read for pleasure?
I have read and listened to a wide variety of books. I enjoy inspirational self-help books, management/leadership books or audio tapes, and suspense thrillers that are not too gory. I enjoy researching the Bible, reading Bible commentaries and Bible prophesy. Biographies of world and business leaders are also something I enjoy.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town in Iowa but I spent years traveling for business. I have been a worker, a leader, and an executive working with some of the largest manufacturers in the United States. I have a solid faith, have been involved in my local church, including serving as president.
Describe your desk
When I am in a creative mood, my desk and credenza areas are covered with research, notes, stacks of reference books with a space just big enough for me to work on my laptop.
When did you first start writing?
I have been writing for business most of my life. As an operations executive, I documented options, process, and final procedures for a wide variety of business needs.
I have been writing books for 20 years.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
A story that needed to be told.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to dance. Cooking calms my soul and I have enjoyed learning to make different recipes using multiple methods. I enjoy watching sports, movies, comedy, and certain shows on TV. I golf, fish, and enjoy working around the house and garden.
What are you working on next?
I am not sure which idea I may work on next. I will take some time to relax from the completion of this book and then see which idea starts writing itself.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My laptop is my reader of choice.
