Interview with Andre Harville

When did you first start writing?
I started writing in grammar school.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a few different places which have influenced my writing by giving me a wider scope on life.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I was motivated to become an indie author because of the opportunity to produce my work and reach others in a fast and easy way.
Describe your desk
My desk is a series of piles of paper, cups and writing instruments.
What is your writing process?
My writing process for Poems is whatever I'm thinking and current events. I write my thoughts and develop poems from those thoughts. My writing process for stories is to start with a character or principle and build the story and events.
How do you approach cover design?
My approach to cover design is a mixed bag. I use my own photos, my likeness and or a standard cover template.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I'm not sure what marketing techniques have been most effective. I am trying them all as I learn them, word of mouth, Writers Blogs, Society Media Sites, personal writers web site, etc.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords contribution to my success is the presence of my book on the Barnes and Noble web site.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I remember the first story I ever read was an Afrikan folktalesabout thunder and lightening. After reading that story I began to write similar stories. The impact opened my mind and imagination.

The first story I ever wrote was an Afrikan Folktale.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read History, Classic Novels, Science Fiction, Mystery, Poetry and Spiritual books for pleasure.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
The nook e-reading my device of choice.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
The way I discover the ebooks I read is to visit Smashwords and similar web sites.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are Paul Laurence Dunar, Nikki Giovanni, Amari Baraka, Shakespeare, Egar Rice Burroughs.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My lastest project is a book of Poems based on life, love, pain and pleasure.
What are you working on next?
My next project is a collection of poems on love, erotics and relationships.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean every thing to me. The fans have the ear to listen, hear and be moved by my words.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Reaching the mind, heart and soul of the reader is my greatest joy in writing.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, I spend my time reading and outdoor activities.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
What inspires me to get out of bed every day is survival.
