Interview with Q Schoenberg

Published 2015-03-21.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I like the Game of Thrones series. I read the first book when it came out and have been stuck ever since. I have also enjoyed the series The Wheel of Time. A little repetitive in the later books, but I guess you can expect that after 14 of them. One of my all time favorites is "The Bird of Prey" about a young man learning to command a Royal Navy vessel in the 1700s under the tutelage of his father. One last series it the "King Maker, King Breaker" Innocent mage.
What do you read for pleasure?
Everything. I love to read.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My laptop. I read and write from one location.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Working on the first. Need more time to answer properly.
Describe your desk
I mostly write while sitting up in bed, but I do have a computer desk that is two tiered and about 5 feet long with a file cabinet to the left. Both are oak.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in South East Michigan. I don't think that was the key factor. I think my mother encouraging us to use our imagination and not dismissing it gave me the freedom to develop a wider view on things.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing a story in my 20s about 12 characters in the future who were the last descendants of the people that built "Stonehenge" I never did finish it, but I plan to one day.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I saw a cartoon drawing on a poster in a store and it had such character that I stated to imagine that little rabbit having an personality and an life while I was walking around the store. This was the first thoughts of Rudy Rabbit.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Younger children have always been amused by me. I thought I could entertain them with some stories.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has given me an avenue to publish my work and see how it is looked at by others without the large financial risk of the traditional publishing efforts.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I hope to get good reviews. I would die happy if one day I was out in public and heard someone I didn't know talking about one of my characters or books. This would be the ultimate joy for me.
