Interview with Thomas Ishmael Ramalekana

Tell me about your Childhood
I was born and raised at a place called Ga-Femane in Bolobedu in South Africa.I am the first born son of Mosibudi Selinah Ramalekana. I attended my primary school at Ga Femane Primary school, then again did my secondary at the same village at Ramaolwane High School.
When did you start with writing and tell us more about your career?
I started writing books when I was at University of Venda; unfortunately I was not published due to lack of funds. I have published two books so far. The first one is called The Danger of Giving UP and my latest offering is Called Unblocking Blocked Pipes of the 21st Century. I am working under South African Police Services (SAPS) as a forensic analyst since 01 November 2009, I have five (6) years full experience. I did my research on Retrospective analysis of Animal Crime Scene Investigation in Thabazimbi from 2013-2015 that was my Master’s thesis.
What is your goal as a writer?
To be best African Motivational Speaking Dynamite the world has ever seen. My motivational style is very different and can never be compared. I call it a gift from Heaven. I always pray to GOD to push me in my writing style. I want every line to be occupied with anointing from above and this is clear on the danger of giving up book that I have written. You cannot read a line and still see poverty as an obstacle in you achieving your goals in this life. You will develop a no surrender kind of mentality and never allow giving up to give birth in your life.
What did you study?
I have BSc (Microbiology and Botany),BScHon ( Botany) and MSc ( Thesis Submitted).
What motivates you?
I was motivated by the situation that I found myself in when I was growing up. I did not want other people to go through what I went through. I was born in a humble background. I want people to have confidence in what they do and never surrender or give up.
Who is the writer you were looking for when you grow up and why?
The late Dr Myles Munroe motivated me all the way. I loved the way he used his intellectual wisdom when writing the books. I think I have mastered the art of motivating from heart. Motivation is something that comes from within. I also got encouraged by Prof makalela an academic at the university of Witwatersrand (Wits). He is very gifted in speech and very humble. Most of the people who motivate me are great articulative speakers and politicians. I am learning from Mogoeng Mogoeng and Dr Somadoda fekini if I miss their interviews I cry tears of disappointment.
What advice can you tell a young person who wants to follow your footsteps?
Writing involves a lot of research and good analysis of things. Education is the only instrument that can help you as you prepare yourself in this life; youth arm yourself with knowledge. Failure to prepare is preparing to fail. Treasure life and life will treasure you and remember that life cannot put you under any more pressure than you are unable to endure. Think expensive and be able to double click your associations. Chicken attracts chickens and my advice to you is to think like an eagle and be in a company of innovative thinker. Never and never allow defeat to be a full stop in your life because there is an expiry date for every problem.Never give up if you something to give.
Tell me about your journey as an author?
It was not an easy journey especially because I was not known in the writing fraternity. I had to brand myself and now my books are doing well.Patience is Virtue.
What are the challenges you came across in writing, and how did you deal with it?
The challenge is finding the publishing company especially if you are looking for funding. You need to have enough money to start as a self-Published Author. In my case I funded my projects and the support that I got from the family that kept me going.
