Interview with Toni House

What are you working on next?
Several different things, One is The Tala Chronicles "The Song of The Red Wolf", it is some historical fiction, ghost story and love story with a twist of horror.

Gluten Free Recipes for those people like me that can not have gluten.

I am in the process of formatting some of my other eBooks to up load here on Smashwords for free. Like Frugal Family Fun, Easy Guide to Composting and some ways to make some money doing it too.

And I plan to translate all of them into Spanish and French.

I would really appreciate all of your input for what you want included in my up and coming books.

And please download the eBooks I have listed already and leave me reviews. Positive and Negative reviews help me to become a better author.
Who are your favorite authors?
Oh my Gosh! I have many, Stephen King, James Patterson, J.K. Rowling and a new one Colleen Hoover. And many, many more.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I love life. Even with all the bad, and even with all the bad that has happened to me and to those around me. Not that I love for bad things to happen to me or to anyone, but it is part of life, it is part of living. I love to witness the resolve, the inner strength, the faith, the grace, the humanity, the never give up attitude that people have. (That fight) We are so fortune to be where we are in the United States. No matter how imperfect.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I also work, 70 to 80 hours per week right now, but kids are grown and I have more me time.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Many different ways. Mostly word of mouth. Then Google trends believe it or not.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Oh my yes. I was in elementary school. But if you are talk about the first one I published. I was picked up by a traditional publisher. I could not believe it, Save Your Money Save Your Family 28-Day Meal Plan for Recession Proofing Your Family. Then I wrote a second book under my brand Save Your Money Save Your Family Guide to Savvy Shopping Skills. So I purchased my title back and self published both books.
What is your writing process?
Writing non-fiction is different than writing fiction at least for me. I do start with an outline for both, and I know how I plan to end the non-fiction book. A non-fiction book for me is more like writing a report or like writing my thesis for college.
But writing my first fiction novel has been different so far. I know how I want the last book to end, well at least my outline tells me that I do but I am noticing my characters are taking on a life of their own, they are revealing their own identities and personalities which is really fun.

So when I get the first fiction book finished, I'll let you know more and I'll need your opinion on how it turned out.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The Little Engine That Could. When you are a kid and one of the poor kids in school, you feel bad about everything and bad about who you are and that you are nothing. The book encouraged be to keep trying as I continue to do today.
How do you approach cover design?
I am blessed to be very creative, so as I start to write I already visualize how I want the cover to look.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
First let me just say, I do not just like books for the story, the plot or just the characters, I also look at the writing style, visual descriptions, does the author pull you into the story.

Harry Potter I really like J.K. Rowling's imagination.

50 Shades of Grey more for they way she gives visual descriptions.

Both Harry Potter and 50 Shades of Grey pull you into their worlds, where as Twilight I like the way she wrote 2 points of view. Bella's and Jacobs within the one book.

I love the Jason Bourne Trilogy, although I had to read the first few chapters again before finishing the first book.

And I like Hopeless. I like the fact that Colleen Hoover is writing her books in first person. I have a book that I was almost finished with that I wrote in first person and was asked to go back and re write it in 3rd person.

So it goes to show how different writing styles are successful.

There are so many other books past and present that I love as well.
What do you read for pleasure?
Yes I do, I love, love, love to read. Reading can take you places and you never have to leave your room.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
computer pdf. Apple ibooks, I no longer use my Kindle. My daughter gave it to me for a gift and the account was confused so as long as I used her account I could download books, I have had a difficult time getting them to let me register it to my account. But I still love holding that paperback or hardback book in my hands
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Good question, I have hired a publicist, I have been on over 400 TV stations across the country, over 1000 radio stations in the United States, Canada and the UK. I have more than one website, twitter, Face Book. And I had my own radio show for a time. I just didn't have enough time to do it all. But actually I sold the most books during the time I as on air to be honest. Being a good talk show host takes a lot of time off the air, I do plan to start that back up again next year.
Describe your desk
I generally keep it neat and organized.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Alabama and moved to Arizona. I really don't think where I grew up at least to this point has really influenced my writing as much as how I grew up. My first published book was written in 2009 Save Your Money Save Your Family. When I wrote it is was as much therapeutic for me as it was to help people and families during a very hard time in our county. Not only was I struggling but so was America.

But now the fiction novels I am writing The Tala Chronciles, takes place in Alabama.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The second book in the Save Your Money Save Your Family series.
