Interview with Tristen Nord

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Bakersfield, California. Growing up in Bakersfield had ALOT to do with writing this novella. I actually got the idea of the Green Man from a figure i would see as a young boy. My parents said i would cry and scream at night and say "The Green Man the Green Man!!" I thought, what better way to write a horror novella than to base it off of personal experiences. I also used Bakersfield as the setting of the novella.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing when i was in 2nd grade. My grandmother knew I had a creative imagination and got me a journal one day to write stories in. Ever since my stories have just gotten longer and better and I still to this day love to write. So, really, I guess it was my grandmother who got me started on this path.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I guess what motivated me was my love for writing and reading. I've always wanted to publish a book, and Lucid Shadows was my first "real" novella" that I actually finished and didn't just scrap. Even if I don't sell any copies it will still be cool just to see my work up on the site.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to express myself in ways that regular conversation cannot do, and to be able to go into my own world.
What do your fans mean to you?
If I had any fans they would mean the world to me. If I had fans that would mean they liked my work enough to buy it and now consider themselves my fans, and honestly that would make me teary eyed, haha.
What are you working on next?
Well, i'm not 100% positive yet but I have an idea for a fictional work if I can get everything together in my head. It has epic fights, romance, suspense, twists, and this may scare readers away, but religion.
Who are your favorite authors?
Christopher Paolini and Stephen King are HUGE inspirations to me.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
To eat, haha, no i'm just kidding. Just to try and live my life to the fullest, see and do new things, and maybe start on a new project.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When i'm not writing i'm usually either watching movies (i'm a huge movie junkie) or spending time with my family or friends.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I ever wrote was about a roman warrior who was on a quest to find his real name. I cant remember the title, but the story, when I read it now, is hilarious. It was the first book I wrote in my journal and I wrote about three sequels to it.
What is your writing process?
Really there is no writing process. If i'm in a writing mood i'll jot down a brief summary of a story I would like to write, try and form that into a kind of story board, and then if I think its good enough ill begin typing it. If i'm already working on a story I just sit at my computer and type until I get tired, hungry, or bored.
