Interview with Abbot Trygve E. Wighdal

Published 2019-10-29.
When did you first start writing?
I wrote my first short story soon after I learned to write. It was a comical little vignette no one found funny.
What's the story behind your latest book?
A mighty struggle against my own madness. When I wrote about “sinking into the terrifying Hell of my own soul, a cold, utter darkness of the scariest, most painful insanity that peels off your skin while your brain screams, crushed by madness,” I wasn't a novelist - that was a true description of my mental state at that time. Writing the book virtually saved my mind and my soul.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
An interaction with one particular literary agent. I am fully aware some (of the agents) are the angels helping authors but mine was, appropriately for a book titled "Jung's Demon," a true demon.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Pruning the text of nonsense, "killing the darlings" once I am able to reckognize them as pests. In a word, re-writing.
What do your fans mean to you?
Anyone who gives their most valuable commodity -- their time -- to read my work means a world to me.
What are you working on next?
A masterpiece :)
Who are your favorite authors?
The usual suspects: Fyodor Dostoevsky; Malcom Lowry; Michael Bulgakov.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Agonizing over the fact I am not writing.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes.
What is your writing process?
A total mess. Last chapter written first. A character appears after he had been killed and I have no clue how that happened. While fixing that I create even a bigger mess.
Why do you write?
It is the only process I know and hope it would take me to the life of my own.

"Jung's Demon, a serial-killer's tale of love and madness" is a study of human suffering, a story of self-discovery gone amok. This book contains the serial killers chronicles, his harrowing descent into Hell. Think Kafka on acid and sprinkle some humor over it; that's "Jung's Demon".
