Interview with Salaheddine Wazzan

What are your five favorite books, and why?
1- All Quiet on the Western Front: for it is a very realistic down-to-earth book because it has readers gripped to the characters even if the ones we read about are one or two soldiers out of a million, which is also an explanation to the ending.
2- The Silmarillion: J.R.R Tolkien and his "Biblical" epic do not need explaining :)
3- The Prince: A political book that reveals to us the truest aspects of the human mind and spirit.
4- Asterix & Obelix comics: because they're awesome
5- Socrates' Defence: becuase there is no one alive that can debate and defend like Socrates
What do you read for pleasure?
A lot of history and politics, and Shakespeare every now and then. There are a plethora of lessons to be learned from our history, especially our wars and our arts, both of which have greatly inspired me from my youth, and play a large role in the crafting of the world of Lorenia.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Lebanon, a very politically unstable country, which employs and favors sectarianism over unity. This can be clearly seen in my book from the very beginning. Lebanon is also a high-crime rate nation, where criminals are treated with respect and "honor", and those that abide by the law are named cowards. Additionally, the nation still has the idea of family honor and family tradition, think of it like Westeros but in real life, literally. This reason alone is what had me carefully craft all sixteen houses, and have their histories be as real as real can be.
When did you first start writing?
Well, this is short. Currently, I'm seventeen years old, but a month after I became sixteen, I started working on Lorenia. I had three versions prior to publishing this one, but I thought this was the best of the bunch.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I couldn't get a summer job :)
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Still waiting to find out...
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The weaving of words together, like a symphony that brings melody to the eyes of the reader, playing with their emotions and thoughts.
What do your fans mean to you?
To be very honest, everything.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life, and all the possibilities within it.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Editing :*(, or reading, or video games or keeping up with all the Game of Thrones conspiracy theories.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Just plain and simple, I remember the classics I loved as a child and look them up.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it's Tales of Lorenia: Fall of Heaven
