Interview with V.R. Foreman

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. The first story I ever wrote was for an assignment in my first college English class. It was a slightly embellished recount of my wedding day with a little added fluff and frill. The first draft bombed terribly! There were red pen marks all over it! I considered and incorporated all the critiques and most of the suggestions my instructor made and submitted a final draft that made him ask me if I really wrote it. He actually asked me to recite some of the sentences from the story. Satisfied that it was an original, he began to tell me what perfectly expert story writing it was. I was elated! After showing me the rare 100% written at the top of my paper, he then asked if he could keep my story as an example for all of his future classes. I gladly agreed!
How do you approach cover design?
For me, the cover should accurately reflect what is behind it. It should make the reader feel the tone of the work. I was totally inspired by the contents of the book, which motived my cover design.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I am a spiritually business-minded kinda gal so, I love books like Dave Ramsey's EntreLeadership and The Blessed Life by Robert Morris. I found such life-changing knowledge in those reads. I also love The Man Whisperer by Rick Johnson. I totally recommend it for ALL women, young and old! It is very revealing about the innerworkings of the men in our lives. Commanding Your Morning by Cindy Trimm is phenominal as well - another recommended read. She does a wonderful job of teaching us the power of our words. And of course, Flowing From My Heart by yours truly! lol
What do you read for pleasure?
I don't read anything more than I read the Word of God, the Holy Bible. It is critical to life. It is the standard that I strive to live by daily. Everything I need to know is found in it - any problem I could ever encounter, any life decision I could ever face - God has written in His Word the instructions to live an abundant life.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I love, love, love my Kindle!!!! My dear mother sent me the money to buy it for myself several birthdays ago and I really didn't think I needed one at the time. Anyone who really knows me knows that I am a very slow adapter to technology. It takes me a minute to get with the latest gizmo. At the time, Kindles were fairly new, besides, I already had a laptop and a cell phone and just didn't think a girl needed all that. But, I eventually used the money to purchase what she intended simply because she wanted me to have it and I fell in love INSTANTLY! I've never tried another reading device and don't want to!
Describe your desk
My desk is very organized with lots and lots of family photos, pink and flowers - all the things I love!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the big city. My mother raised two children on her own, and she did an exceptional job I might add! I had all the things I needed and most of the things I wanted. She worked hard to afford us a private school education. So, I learned about God very early. As my relationship with Him grows, He fills me with revelation, creative thoughts and ideas. I just put them down on paper.
When did you first start writing?
I was the girl who was always writing. I have kept a journal since my high school years. I'm always scribbling. I think on paper. I dream on paper. I plan on paper. Writing has been a part of me almost since I can remember.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Flowing From My Heart came about after the birth of my first grandchild. I looked at that precious babygirl and my heart broke because I knew many of the struggles that she would have to face in life. I wanted to shield her from as much as I could. So, I began to keep a journal of sorts for her to reflect on as she grew. I wanted to pass on my life's lessons to her and all of my grandchildren to come in a way that they would be able to reference them long after I am gone. Actually a book was not at all what I was intending; but voila!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The fact that my writings have the potential to inspire, encourage, strengthen and uplift others brings me the greatest joy and sense of fulfillment.
What are you working on next?
Right now, I'm trying to get this marketing thing down to a science. Sometime this year, I anticipate releasing another title on the subject of customer service.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am a self-proclaimed multi-tasker who always has to have several things going on at once or else I'm not happy. In addition to writing, I am a devoted wife and mother and grandmother, I also own a business services firm where I help structure small businesses and non-profit organizations, and actively support my local church and community in various ways.
