Interview with Véronique F. Courtois

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes, very vividly I might add. I must have been around 7 or 8 years-old. I had been stuck at home with the flu and my Mother brought me a little book with a red and golden cover entitled ROBINSON CRUSOE. And it took me on a such an incredible journey of discovery and fantasy that I realized the power novels had on imagination.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
My favorite books are:
Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris
The Crime of the Orient Express by Agatha Christie
One Thousand and One Arabian Nights
Dangerous Liaisons by Choderlos de Laclos
The Portrait of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
Describe your desk
A laptop, a tablet, Samsung Galaxy S7, fountain pens, a black notebook, almonds to nosh on, a bottle of spakling water with lemon.
When did you first start writing?
About eight years ago,,,, short screenplays and animation....
What's the story behind your latest book?
Having taught French for about 30 years, I noticed over the years that French readers are either simplified adaptations of French classics or basic stories mainly targeted for beginners... and nothing really sounds remotely "different and entertaining" for adults who are trying to keep up their intermediate level of French... So, I decided to write a romantic story that would be entertaining and introduce current vocabulary within the context of a novel that would students the incentive to visit Paris.
What are you working on next?
My next e-book will be an English-French translation workbook at the intermediate level.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Watching movies and writing screenplays.... Cooking Thai and Indian food... Skyping from Los Angeles where I live with my Mother who lives in the South of France near the Spanish border.
