Interview with VeroMac

Published 2014-05-27.
What do you read for pleasure?
Milan Kundera is an author I keep returning to.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Any tablet quite honestly
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Word of mouth.
Describe your desk
Ohhh...I can't see it under all those papers!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
In France. How did it influence my writing...? Well Language was always an important part of my life. My mother was a psycho-linguist and we always had games around language - it's how I learned. We didn't have money in excess so a pen and a paper remained the two constant mediums I had around to liberate inspiration.
I guess studying languages, literature and philosophy gave me the tools I needed to get to the precise and elusive levels that I wanted.
When did you first start writing?
I was young. I had just seen The Never Ending Story and got mesmerized at the fact that you could read a book and be transported into magical lands.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Life...
What motivated you to become an indie author?
This was always the goal: to be able to share.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It's quite like an exorcism actually. Until I've written it properly, it will keep on nagging. Once it's out and properly out, I can move on to something else.
Really I just need to get it out!
What do your fans mean to you?
The world...they are those who can relate on the most profound level. Obviously you don't talk to your friends the same way you write poems. In this instance, your readers become a part of your soul...they embrace your words and turn them into their own experiences.
What are you working on next?
A compilation of essays on gender, gender identity, and how it could only be the reflection of Other, and not Self.
Who are your favorite authors?
Kundera...again and always.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The amount of things I need to do!
Namely pursue my interests, love my family and friends, and discover a new batch of life.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Translations. Traveling. Counting sheep.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Randomly.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I must have been about 6 or 7...and it was eerily similar to "Last Action Hero"...
What is your writing process?
I need to be alone. Put some Jazz on. Prep a glass of wine. And just go without thinking.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The Little Prince. I think it impacted my entire being quite frankly. I retained a constant desire for questioning and having the "why" answered.
How do you approach cover design?
Intuition.

"Promenades Réelles" est le chemin que mon imaginaire a pris depuis que j’ai commencé à écrire, pour aller vagabonder dans ma bulle, et revenir en tirer les mots dans la réalité. C’est un voyage à l’intérieur de mon adolescence, un voyage transitionnel entre l’enfant et l’adulte. L’accouchement de mon être.
