Interview with George Gmitro

What's the story behind your latest book?
VIABLE@140 depicts a father's struggle to save the life of his preborn child during a crisis pregnancy. This suspenseful and intriguing work of fiction depicts abortion and Prolife in a personal and passionate way. I not only discuss the policies of today (Roe vs Wade, SCOTUS)but puts the emphasis on the main problem...the competing interests of a fallen world.
Once you immerse yourself into the struggles of these characters you will experience helplessness, anger, betrayal, courage, loyalty, love, and the power in God's grace . By the end of this emotional epic you will become more understanding of those struggling or having struggled with a crisis pregnancy situation. VIABLE@140 will ignite a passion for life affirming choices!

What impact has VIABLE@140 made on the lives of your readers?
Overall, the impact has been very positive. So far, six of my readers have shared with me that reading VIABLE@140 stirred a desire for action and have responded by becoming involved in nearby pregnancy resource centers. By seeing how literary fiction can generate such a response has been a blessing and has given me the inspiration and drive to continue to work on the completion of the "Write For Life" series.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I feel that you can see my heart and compassion for Life Affirming Choices in the characters in this novel. My greatest joy is having a reader respond by sharing their heart, life story, and what they would do if they were immersed in a similar situation.
What are the reasons I want to tell my story.
I have a passion for bringing the sensitive discussion of abortion to the classroom where the characters in VIABLE@140 can come alive to generate heartfelt debate.
Imagine young adults discussing abortion, adoption, ultrasounds, motherhood, the roll of the father, available resources, tragic consequences, and God's grace among their peers. Since these discussions are based on fictional characters the conversations are able to take place in a non confrontational manner, before a real life crisis situation arises. My hope is that this epic novel will instill a passion for life affirming choices and for readers to become better equipped to engage with those experiencing a crisis pregnancy in a compassionate and encouraging way.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing on a cruise that my wife and I took in 2011. I started with an overflowing heart of thanks of being so blessed by God. He gave me one major idea during the four day cruise that I wrote over fifty pages. It took another two years of being obedient to His calling before I had a complete novel.
What are you working on next?
I am going back in time to the middle of the 19th century, tracing back Lance's great great grandfather. Enjoy the same emotional extremes as you follow the courage of the Strickland family.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Bayonne, New Jersey and attended St. Peters Prepatory High-school. The school influenced my attitude in what matters most in life. It provided a fertile training ground in reading and critiquing literature of ages past that formed the subject matter that I am most passionate about...The competing interests of a fallen World and the power of God's grace.
What do you read for pleasure?
I enjoy reading historical fiction.
