Interview with Vee Vixens

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life it's self. Everyday is a gift that should not be taken for granted.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading, cooking, knitting, gardening, or hanging out with my husband.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I'm a member of Bookbub, Team Romance Reads and Amazon Kindle. I also have a Nook. Trying to cover all my bases. I love the written word.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
It was a fairy tale I wrote for my siblings.
What is your writing process?
Things catch my interest. Like a joke, thought, or comment. I think about what that would be like as a story. I follow my muse. She is an interesting creature.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
It was the Boxcar Kids. I loved that series so much. I use to imagine I was them solving the mysteries. My local town librarian introduced my to the series. I always loved going to visit her as a child.
How do you approach cover design?
I turn over a raw copy of my book to my cover designer Barbie Knight. She comes up with ideas and then presents me with options. She knocked out the Shivers of Hope cover on the first try. I gave her a rough idea of what I wanted it to be. Then gave her a raw copy of the book. She picked out the location, design, and model. She ran with it and I was extremely pleased. She is already brainstorming for the next cover for my second book.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Shakespheres Completed Works.
Boxcar Kids
Mice of Men
Old man and the Sea
Anything by Poe
I have a very eclectic taste for the written word. I will read anything. I love the older stuff because they usually had a moral or life lesson attached. I love the newer stuff too. I read hundreds of books a year. I would rather read while listening to music. Thank you for the invention of e-books.
What do you read for pleasure?
Mostly suspense, mystery, drama, romance. Aww, who am I trying to kid. I love it all and read it all. There is no one set genere that I follow.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle is my primary because I had cloud storage. I literally own hundreds if not into the thousands of books. I have a nook as well. It was my first reader and I loved it. Heard they have cloud storage now too. I might have to revisit an old friend if they do.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
So far social media, website, smashwords and word of mouth. Hoping to break out as an author. This is my first book, so I'm raw and have a lot to learn.
Describe your desk
An old computer desk that has notebooks, pens, planner and usually a nosy cat on it.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up and still live in Missouri. I grew up rural and on a farm for most of my life. Books were a way for me to go other places. Be other people, do incredible things. I love my country, but I love my state even more. I'm a Hills and Hollers gal through and through. Living this life made me want to tell stories and entertain people like I was entertained.
When did you first start writing?
As a kid, I loved playing school. I used to write silly stories, plays and songs. I was always inside my head. I used to go outside under a tree with a book all the time.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The God of Death falls in love. It hit me one day, you always hear about how different Gods fall in love. What about the Grim Reaper. I knew about Darkness and Night from my readings of mythology. So I decided to write a series about their children. Thanatos is the first in my series, The Sons and Daughters of Darkness and Night.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
They have taken my monkey writings and made them into downloadable e-books that I can share with everybody.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When people express how much they enjoyed it. Nothing gives you a greater feeling of accomplishment. I made someone smile, scared, happy, or just entertained them. When someone tells me I made them cry, laugh or worry. That to me means I obtained my goal. I made them feel something.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything, they are the reason I write. I am so thrilled to have people interested in what I write. I try to connect with them daily on my social media.
