Interview with Trine Villemann

What do you read for pleasure?
Mostly medical thrillers. I have huge interest in how the pharmaceutical business works because my husband was severely injured by a vaccine produced by vaccine-manufacturer Sanofi Pasteur.
And as I have experienced, all fiction is based on true stories and characters, so I learn a lot from reading these thrillers.
And, of course, anything royal.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I love my Kindle app on my ipod. It's so neat to have in your hand when you are in bed at night.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Social media. My first book "1015 Copenhagen K - Marys Dysfunctional In-Laws" has a life of its own on social media.
Describe your desk
I don't have one. I write in bed...Just like Barbara Cartland:)
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Denmark, this tiny little monarchy on top of the world.
It was very cosy and secure.
Nevertheless my writing was very much influenced by social injustice. I grew up with an older brother who was a drug addict. I visited prisons at an very early age and that inspired me to become a journalist.
But I ended up becoming a royal correspondent - simply because I developed an interest for monarchies.
When did you first start writing?
Very early on.
My essays in school were always elaborate affairs.
After sitting for an entry exam, I was accepted into Denmark's Journalism College when I was 20.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story behind my new novel QUEEN OF DECEPTION has been with me for a long time.
Due to my former job as a royal reporter I have been able to see some of what goes on behind the palace walls in European monarchies.
I think we tend to forget that behind the smiles, and the waving royal hands are human beings like you and me. They experience the same grief, the same pain as commoners do, but where do royals go to share their problems?
Where does a Queen seek help, when she is being abused sexually by her husband?
And to whom can a Crown Prince turn when he really does not want to become king?
That is the theme I am exploring in QUEEN OF DECEPTION
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I have been published by big traditional publishers, but I find it to be a tedious affair. I find it difficult to deal with big organisations where it is more about the company's bottom line than it is about the story I want to tell.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Don't know yet, but I am about to find out.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I LOVE the whole process. It gives me tremendous satisfaction to sit down and create my universe, build up my characters and find a structure to my story.
There is nothing more rewarding in this world than to come out of a good long writing-session with a few thousand word of a pleasing standard.
What do your fans mean to you?
"Fans?" I like the term "readers" much better. I know that many people do not share my critical view of some of today's royals. Yet many of these people buy my books and that's great. We all ned to keep reading, to expand our horizons and engang in the world.
What are you working on next?
I am working on my next royal novel.
The working title is "Crown Princess of Ambition" and it explores the difficulty experienced by this generation of European crown Princesses who have a commoner background.
It's not as easy and painless as it looks to become a crown princess.
Who are your favorite authors?
Too many to mention. I am an avid reader.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My husband and my son.
And life!
Why stay in bed when you have so much to achive in this wonderful world of ours.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Looking after my family.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I go on Goodreads.com Kindle recommends quite a few and I am really looking forward to Smahswords.com as well.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
No, it's too long ago.
What is your writing process?
The story develops in my head. I go for walks, long walks and let the story start to play out in my head.
The first chapter is the most important one for me. It can take weeks for me to get the first chapter just right because it is so crucial for how the rest of the story unfolds out and how it is written.
How do you approach cover design?
With trepidation. After the editor has finished it is often the Graphic Designer who gets the book script first. It is always nerve-wrecking when your story leaves you to be read by other people.

Queen of Deception is the first novel by Danish royal author Trine Villemann. It’s a scandalous tale which focuses on the death bed regrets of the Queen of a small northern European kingdom, as well as the self destructive escapades of the country’s Crown Prince Franz. Queen of Deception offers a glimpse of life behind Palace walls, where sex, duty and royalty makes for an explosive cocktail.
