Interview with Jacqueline Nydam

What do your fans mean to you?
I love where I used to live, and want my readers to experience the magic and mystery of Stonehenge, the Longbarrow and the rest of the mysterious places I took for granted growing up.
What are you working on next?
Oaklade is a trilogy. The second book "The Mirronstep" is in manuscript form, and will hopefully be available by Christmas of this year. The third book is in progress.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I love our horses. We spend time with them every day.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Horse Riding, playing with the dogs.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I don't read ebooks. I like paperbacks.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. I was in high school. I did a series of short stories for a project.
What is your writing process?
Lots of research, and time alone to gather the information in my head.

How do you approach cover design?
I have a very talented graphics designer. Jack Tuckwell, who owns is from my hometown in England. He reads my synpsis and sends the most amazing cover designs!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Don't have one. I like the paper version.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I'm still figuring that one out, but will keep you posted.
Describe your desk
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up about twenty minutes from Stonehenge. Our parents used to take us on day trips to Avebury and Stonehenge (before you had to pay to get to it!) They also took us on outings to the Savernake forest, Silbury Hill, White Horse Hill, and the Longbarrow. These places influenced all three of the books, "Oaklade" being part one.
When did you first start writing?
The first time I became interested in writing was in high school. I was greatly influenced by my English teacher, Mr. Barnes.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story is of a young girl who, after the death of her parents and brother, discovers she comes from a long line of guardians who protect to a set of orbs called Grymlons. She goes on a quest to regenerate them, and experiences magic and mystery.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My son's teacher. Mr. Glen Bledsoe.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
That is also a work in progress.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Reading my work and hoping I inspire, thrill and take my readers somewhere else for a while
Who are your favorite authors?
Emily Bronte, Stephen King, Mary Shelley to name a few.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Black Beauty, Wuthering Heights, The Stand, Frankenstein, and Duncton Wood,
What do you read for pleasure?
I enjoy a good fantasy/ fiction novel, but I also enjoy books on ancient history.
