Interview with Louise Ford

What motivated you to become an indie author?
Weezie A Palm Beach Story was born from documenting the elder abuse of my father for my lawyers who told me that was all I could do at that time being "only" the daughter and not his wife...
I also felt that part of the story alone was not enough to understand it all.. And I also felt there were lots of good stories to tell.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has allowed the book to go live on Ibooks and that has been a nice way to sell it along with paperback and kindle.
What do your fans mean to you?
I am blown away by the response people have had from the book. And amazed that so many parts of my book have touched so many people in different ways... either by relating to someone they know who suffered as my father did ... or one of my other stories that they relate to. I have allot of fans in Clayton NY where I still spend my summers and I also have fans in Palm Beach, Lake Placid, London & Rochester NY ... just because they relate to the locations in the book.
Also people tell me that they enjoyed reading the book as they can picture so well what I am describing. That is very satisfying to know that people "can't put it down" !
What are you working on next?
I am working on finding the answers to the Colombian mystery... and also putting together ... somewhat on paper and somewhat in my head the story of my battle with Hep C. Don't want it to be heavy but it should help people understand and get a good laugh out of all the misadventures it has caused !
Who are your favorite authors?
I love biographies and good gripping fiction. If I am bored in the first 10 pages the book usually never gets picked up again. What I read is too varied to say I have a favorite author...
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life ! What a question !!!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I horseback ride and swim. I walk in the country and lately I deal with health issues which are tedious and take way to much time out of my life.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Usually friends suggest books they have enjoyed... that is usually my first starting point. Or I may see in the media something about a book and think... I should read that !
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Honestly I don't... It would have been something in school ...hmmmm...
What is your writing process?
I need peace and quiet... time alone ... then I can sit at my lap top all day and into the night... but if i get distracted it is very very hard to get my mind back on track.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Black Beauty... I have always loved horses ! Silly question really does anyone care what my first story I wrote or my first one read was ??
How do you approach cover design?
Turquoise and Pink and a photo of me since the book title is my name... not that hard to figure out !
What is your e-reading device of choice?
mini ipad
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Personal book signings and Facebook
Describe your desk
Cluttered... most of the time then I decide it's time to organize ... about once a week and its neatly stacked piles of paper, MacBook Air, Mini Ipad and my iphone !!! I could do Apple commercials !
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Growing up I always was given terrible grades in English because I couldn't spell. So I never thought I could write because my school papers would always end up being F's because of poor spelling... Terrible thing to do to a kid who enjoyed writing but was told I couldn't because of rigid writing rules !! But now all I have to do is use spell check ! I grew up traveling and living in various places as the book will tell so that gave me good fodder for my writing.
