Interview with Emmaline Westlund

Published 2014-01-06.
What are you working on next?
Right now I'm working on a re-write of the first series I ever released. It's called Paper Hearts and it should be out sometime this month.
Who are your favorite authors?
Marya Hornbacher, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Robert McCammon, Al Yankovic, JL Bryan...
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The very idea of spending 3.5 hours sequestered with scrivener and some music is enough to push me to get out of bed in the afternoon. I do all my best work at night.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Tumblr.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I look at what's related to my amazon.com purchases and I look at what my friends are reading on goodreads.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I remember the first novel I wrote when I was seven. It was horribly bloody, I think the first story I ever wrote was for first grade and was about five pages long. It involved the main character choking a turkey until it passed out.
What is your writing process?
I flesh out a few of the characters, decide on a setting, and start writing! Sometimes I'll also write out a basic outline but usually I just kind of go for it. I'll think about a basic plot for a story for months before I actually do anything about it. Usually by the time I sit down to write I've got half of the book written in my head.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle, though I currently own an iPad 2.
Describe your desk
My desk is actually a lapdesk that I hook over either a trash can or the arm of a couch. It's got a velcro piece to hang my iPad on and a compartment to hold pens and stuff in.

My second "Memoir" for lack of a better word. These are written similar to the posts on my blog, but about different things. Like a memoir, I actually do talk about things that have happened in my life, but unlike a memoir, I just kind of rant about stuff.
