How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Since I just started with Smashwords I don't know, but I am positive that it will help me greatly by expanding my visibility. It is hard to be seen among the millions of Indy writers out there, this is just another step in the process.
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans are everything. If you don't have fans you're not selling books. Fans are your best resource.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Getting an idea out there and sharing it with others and when finally finished, you get a feeling of accomplishment.
Do you have more stories to come?
Yes, I have a few others coming, but I still have several finished ones to publish through Smashwords.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I own a used car lot, so that keeps me busy.
How do you approach cover design?
I get a picture in my head and draw a diagram of it out, then I show my designer, she makes suggestions then sets it all up. Once its complete we get a physical print of the book made and if I like it thats it... if not my designer tweeks it until its perfect.
What do you read for pleasure?
Yes. Who doesn't? If you don't read, you never expand your mind.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I don't have one. I would much rather have a physical copy. I am old fashioned that way.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Mass emailing. The most success that I have had has come from sending out mass emails about limited time offers of my ebooks for free.
Describe your desk
Very large, covers one whole wall and has 2 computers on it. One offline and one online. The offline one keeps my files safe.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Cost. Using big publishing companies only costs you money that you don't need to spend. You can do it all so much less expensively yourself. The hardest thing to do is market your book(s). If you think the large publishing companies are going to do it for you... think again.
