Interview with Robert Wright, Jr

Published 2017-01-16.
What is your writing process?
I think that i have a unique writing style. I create my characters and a basic idea of their adventure and then I let
them tell the story. I don't outline or have a certain goal in mind for my main character just as in real life we take an unknown journey.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
My favorite books of all time is the Harry Potter series. I will sit down at least once a year and go through all the books and I am always finding something new in them. I think that these books are the pinnacle of opening up new worlds for readers and try to match my writing with that idea in mind.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read everything from young adult, fantasy, Sci/Fi, and anything about the history of our world either real world history or alternate history stories.
Describe your desk
My writing desk is a mess. I have small bobble head figures sitting around, with a large stuffed shade wearing dragon. The dragon's name is Percy and he sits on my desk as a reminder to let my charters voice their stories the way they want them to be told.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing and drawing as soon as i could pick up a pencil. All of my characters in my stories are are from drawings that I have done over the years. Each time that I have created a drawing I always have some little background story or meaning for the character.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is called Ruby Red and the Wolf. Ruby has just turned eighteen and finds out through a dragon prophecy that she is the one that is suppose to save the down trodden of the world. The world in the book is different than the one that we live in, in that the humans are ruled over by Supernatural creatures such as werewolves and fae. Throw in some vamps, zombies, along with the other cretaures and you have a great action book with dark humor mixed in.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love to tell stories that open new worlds to readers of all ages. My stories all have main female characters that kick butt with serious attitude problems toward authority and they never wait around to be saved. They always take matters into their own hands and save the day.
How do you approach cover design?
The cover designs on my books are all created by Sherrie Wright. We sit down and discuss what kind of idea that we want the cover to convey and then she will throw out ideas on different covers.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I became an indie author because I had stories to tell for a new generation. My wife does all the work on the cover, editing, and formatting since she has a degree in that area, which allows us to cut down the cost of producing books. I get the easy part in that i can write full time.
What do your fans mean to you?
I love meeting people that read my books. Every time you get a little down or you're struggling with a story it seems someone comes up and picks you up when they tell you how much they love your books. I have also gotten a lot of encouragement from other writers which also helps in crafting great stories.
