Interview with Rebekah Heinrichs

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
"Many Waters" I can't tell you who wrote it but it was the first novel my mother read to me that I remember had the biggest impact on me creatively. I started imagining whole other worlds and alternate universes as a result of that story.
How do you approach cover design?
I love photography and I chose to create this cover design to illustrate how I saw the main character. She's always in a constant state of motion, although for the majority of her life her motion is circular. I wanted to capture her motion as becoming forward even though she had to go backwards to get forwards.
Describe your desk
My desk is all over my house, sometimes outside! Motion feeds my creativity!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up on a farm in BC. I think the vast space and endless fields lifted the lid off of my creativity. Also being in a state of loneliness and anguish for a large part of my childhood, I turned to writing as an outlet for my pain.
When did you first start writing?
I wrote my first short story at the age of nine. I still have it!
What's the story behind your latest book?
I have been through a tumult of insanity in my life and the crazy journey of the main character captures the essence of how I was feeling when I was going through the heartbreak and plugging forward on the journey as it came at me full force.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I love to be creative.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords is the platform that gives people like me an opportunity I might not have otherwise pursued had they not made it so helpful and accessible.
Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Getting lost in the moment and taking the journey that plays out in my mind's eye.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. Without them and the diversity of their backgrounds, I think I might not take writing as seriously as I do.
What are you working on next?
The sequel to declared Valid, and a few new novels with a futuristic element that completely side-step the way this work is written.
