Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the “hood” part of West Baltimore; Saratoga & Pulaski St. It’s not violent enough for me to call it the “Trenches”, meaning , the heart of the slums or an area where there is a lot of gang and drug activity but enough went on in my neighborhood for me to say it’s the “hood”. Though my mother & father owned their home, the area was filled with a lot of violence and over the years the neighborhood turned into a vacant community with maybe a handful of individuals still residing there. Where I grew up is not what inspired me to write my book. My life trials and tribulations is what inspired me to write this book and allow the world to see my life and to know you gotta grow through life in order to be successful.
When did you first start writing?
At the age of 12, I began experiencing a lot of hatred from various individuals at school, in my family, and friends and was even bullied. Typically, when you think of someone being bullied , it’s because they look funny or because they are less fortunate. In my case, I was bullied and hate on because I was very fortunate, I had long pretty hair, and my parents were married ; whereas most of my friends and family came from broken homes with no father and they were less fortunate then me. Going through all of this at the age of 12 is what inspired me to start writing and keeping up with everything I overcame in life.
Why Did you decide to give the book the title “Enough Ain’t Enough”
The Title “Enough ain’t Enough”, was a quote that I used during the most difficult times in my life. Several instances where my marriage was at its worst end, as well as the relationship with my parents and my sister; led me to believe that no matter what solutions I came up with or therapeutic actions I tried ; Enough just wasn’t ENOUGH.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story behind my book , is a girl who faced life obstacles, jealousy , being teased, losing friends, and even family. Experienced Teen pregnancy while in high school , Being Married to a man devoted to the street, and still found ways to overcome all the negativity; graduate high school and is now the CEO & Owner of Charm’N Faces Make-Up Studio In Baltimore, MD.!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Honestly, each and every day I wake up the first thing that's on my mind is absolutely NOTHING. As most sinners, I forget to say my prayers and give thanks to god (which is absolutely ridiculous), but I am working much harder to fix my negative habitual ways. Thankfully, god has still favored me even when I don't acknowledge him or deserve his love. What inspires me the most are my children; Charm and Journie. My Goal as a mother is to ensure that my children have something to look forward to in the future, such as a legacy, or even a family business to take over and continue to build upon once I have taken my final breath in this world, who knows; maybe even before I take my last breath.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Majority of my time is spent either at work or at home with my Husband and two children. My Husband (Montana) and my two Children Journie (Age 5) and Charm (Age 1) mean the world to me and they fulfill my duties as a mom and a wife. I am also a Surgical Technologist on Labor and Delivery, I assist an Obstetrician/Gynecologist during C-sections and in Vaginal Deliveries. Delivering babies has always been my superpower and I am looking forward to advancing my career in the world of Obstetrics and Gynecology to becoming an OB/GYN Physician Assistant. A Physician assistant is an Advanced Practitioner that assists a Physician in medical care, treatment, prescriptions and diagnoses. Physician Assistants can choose to specialize in different areas of medicine with appropriate training, certification, and licensures.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has contributed a lot towards my success and future. It has forced me to face one of my biggest goals that I thought would be very challenging to accomplish. It's one thing to want to actually write a book, come up with a title, and the cover photo; but when it is time to sit down and process all your thoughts and put it all into a manuscript it will become very cumbersome, and time consuming. Fortunately, Smashwords has made it easier for me to pursue this goal and I couldn't be much happier that I am only a few months away from my future as an Author.
What are you working on next?
Now that I am an author, I am now working on opening a Luxury "CHARM'n" studio with two locations.
