Interview with Lucy Proctor

What are you working on next?
I have had many new novel ideas lately but what I am currently writing is a teen novel about a girl who has been kidnapped. I'm quite excited :)
Who are your favorite authors?
I have many favourite authors. Jacqueline Wilson, JK Rowling, Stephenie Meyer, Laurie Hulse Anderson, Sarah Dessen, Sara Shepard, Non Pratt, Holly Smale and Cat Clarke.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Knowing that it's a new day to start writing. Not much to be fair because I am not a morning person, I like my sleep :)
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Working unfortunately but I do also read a lot and enjoy going to the cinema and theatre. I love musicals. I'm also part of a drama group as well :)
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Amazon or getting told about them by my friends :)
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
My first ever story was when I was five and it was about my rabbits but the first proper book was a horror story set on a school trip. I was about ten when I wrote that one :)
What is your writing process?
Write when I can. I usually put music on as well to help. I always tend to write better with music :)
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
It was probably The Story of Tracy Beaker. It didn't have much of an inpact on me but I grew up with it and I still like it up until this day. It was the story that made me like Jacqueline Wilson :)
How do you approach cover design?
I usually sketch a design out and attempt making it myself on Photoshop but sometimes, I do ask a friend if they can make it on a computer for me.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
1 - Undone by Cat Clarke because it had such a gripping ending. It made me laugh, smile and cry and I can't actually forget about it. It was so inspiring :)
2 - Just Listen by Sarah Dessen because of the topics that it covers and how realistic the characters seem.
3 - The Harry Potter series because who doesn't like them??
4 - The Twilight series because they're different from normal vampire books and I really got into them :)
5 - The Story of Tracy Beaker because although I don't read it anymore, it's my childhood :)
What do you read for pleasure?
I love young adult and teen fiction books that involve lots of drama :)
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle :)
Describe your desk
Messy! Extremely messy with reading books, notepads and pens everywhere :)
When did you first start writing?
When I was five but back then it was just talking dogs and cats :)
What's the story behind your latest book?
Kind of based on all those news stories about teenagers going missing and how it affects their families and friends.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
To help young people who may be going through the same problems as the characters.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
England but it didn't influence my writing overly much to be honest :)
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My English teachers, my family and Jacqueline Wilson (my favourite childhood author).
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It's been great. I never thought of publishing on here but so far I've had 33 downloads and I'm pretty pleased with that :)
What do your fans mean to you?
The world :)
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Facebook and Twitter :)
