Interview with Xyvah Okoye

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Well, honestly, its knowing that there's a reason I'm still alive. Knowing that God has a purpose for me still being here.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend most of my time reading.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Haha! Good question! I either search by topic or genre. But most times, just read the forwards of books I really enjoy and search any books by any of the authors that forwarded it.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Oh yes, it was called "The Sacrifice", about a war between two fairy kingdoms and a boy who sacrifices himself for his little sister to live. it was an amazing story.
What is your writing process?
I don't know really, I think I have "moments" when I just write and the words just come alive in my head. I mean, in those moments I can actually see, feel, taste, hear and smell what I'm writing about as if I'm there physically.
Those moments happen most often during my Bible Study or prayer times.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes I do actually, it was called "Caleb, the little shy angel" or something like that. it was about this little angel boy called Caleb. I remember that one. It made me wonder what it would be like to sit on a cloud. Haha I still wonder about that sometimes.
How do you approach cover design?
I give it to a friend of mine. He's awesome with pictures. I'm totally rubbish at that kind of stuff.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Honestly, I can't really say I have a favourite five. I think all books are special and it would be unfair for me to rate them because, no matter how seemingly insignificant, they all add something different to my life.
What do you read for pleasure?
That's easy, The Bible.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Well, I've got an IPad so I guess it would probably be that. But honestly, I'd rather have a hard copy of the books I read.
Describe your desk
It's made of wood...

I'm just kidding. Well I've got my textbooks in a pile, my light reading books piled at the corner, my pen cup, post-it's and bits-and-bobs-cup are lined up by the wall. I've got my timetable stuck to one corner of the table, my tea cup and coaster beside my reading lamp with the center of the table almost always kept clear.
It's my space, my zone. I guess you could call it an organised mess... It's just full of "me".
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I would say it's sharing the information. You see, nobody really benefits from what's in your head unless you share it with them. I like seeing the "light bulb" go on in someone's head when they read something I wrote. Knowing I've made a difference in someone else's life, that's special.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean the world and its brother! Love you guys to bits!!
What are you working on next?
Well, next up, I hope to publish my book titled "The Refreshing Hand of Music" which is basically about the work and the presence of the Lord. hopefully, that should be ready for publishing by the end of this year or the beginning of next year.
Who are your favorite authors?
I've got so many!! a few of them are Dag Heward-Mills, Bill Johnson, Kris Vallotton J. K. Rowlings, J. R. R. Tolken, C. S. Lewis, L. J. Smith, John Bunyan who wrote The Pilgrims Progress... the list goes on and on...
