Interview with Yvette Hough

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
It's not so much what inspires me to get out of bed, it's that I am given grace, and blessed to get out of bed. So I get up with a prayer of thanksgiving in my heart and on my lips.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I Love crafting! (I make hair bows for daughter, tea party hats and dolls) I also love to bake; In addition to painting with my young daughter. (I’ve been teased and called “Susie Homemaker” by family.)
Who are your favorite authors?
Shel Silverstein, Oscar Wilde, Gary Chapman, Louisa May Alcott, Anne Frank, Langston Hughes, Edgar Allen Poe, Brothers Grimm, Maya Angelou and Dr. Seuss(Of course!)
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I browse newest titles in Smashwords and my other favorite retailers.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
No, I don't remember the contents of the story. But I do remember that I was in the third grade, and I took the story to my grandmother; who took it from my hands, sat down to read it told me how wonderful that she thought it was. Her joy stayed with me every time I picked up a tool to write.
What is your writing process?
Like most writers, its' very sporadic and erratic. You always hear about people saying they were awakened from their sleep with a thought or idea. Or had this dream....I can tell you that it's true and when that magic happens, I grab whatever is near me writing tool is near me and get to work.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes I do, It was the "Selfish Giant" by Oscar Wilde. Every time I read it, or my mother read it myself and my sister, we cried. My prayer is that it will never leave my memory.
How do you approach cover design?
I pick a paint brush, a blank canvas, and see what happens. I try to be as original as possible, God gave me more than one talent and I want to utilize every one of them.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
First and foremost, The "BIBLE". It's the road map for my life and contains the destination I desire for my soul; HEAVEN.
"Little Women", I raised by a strong independent mother, trying to teach me to be the right woman I could be; the story fit my life.
"The Selfish Giant" and "The Canterbury Ghost" by Oscar Wilde I found both touching and amusing in different ways.
"The Diary of Anne Frank" Heroism.
And finally, like Everyone else across the globe..."Twilight series" HA!
What do you read for pleasure?
I have several Audio books I listen to for pleasure; Such as "Act like a Success" by Steve Harvey and "Smart Money Smart Kids" by Dave Ramsey. After reading and writing for hours my hands and eyes deserve a break. Ha Ha!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Which ever one my daughter isn't using. Ha! Seriously, she's loves my e-reader as much as I do.
