Interview with Kel Writer

What do you read for pleasure?
Lots of different reading materials actually. I've got diverse interests, so depending on my mood, I'll read something for that. Specifically for books, a great story in the Fantasy, Sci-Fi, or Action genres, will always get me hooked. I have been known to venture into YA and Romance, on occasion :)
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My phone... if that counts.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
To be honest, paid marketing on book listing platforms, mail lists, and social media, in that order. You gotta invest, be willing to take risks and find what works for you.
Describe your desk
It has my laptop, my cup which usually has tea or coffee in it, and ... me :)
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in two places - Nigeria and the U.S. I think the diversity in literature from both countries helped me build a more agile style of thinking, imagining and storytelling.
When did you first start writing?
When I was seven.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It's a sci-fi/spy book about a post-apocalyptic conflict between Russia and the United States, and the characters that drive the plot to its ultimate conclusion. It also is a love story... that's nested in everything else that's going on. I think it's pretty interesting. Currently editing and should be out early this year (2017)
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I like being independent anyways so.... yup.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
As I do this interview, I just joined and I have a sum total of 14 downloads so woot! woot! I'm optimistic so we'll see how far I go here :)
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The story itself. Creating something from nothing or just tapping into a higher plane and pulling some inspiration. It's also a bit fun knowing you can tell a story the way you always wanted to. Life doesn't go too well for you? Write your happy ending!
What do your fans mean to you?
The support. The love. It makes it all worth it.
What are you working on next?
Well I just finished the first draft of my latest book titled "The Russian Connection". I talked a bit about it earlier. So that's what I'm working on.
Who are your favorite authors?
Robert Ludlum, James Hadley Chase, Sidney Sheldon, J.R.R Tolkien
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life, love, happiness
